- Methodology
- EA NSW residual-load merit heuristic v0.1.0
- Limitations
- No bid stack, no unit availability, no interconnectors, no kgCO2e marginal factor. Research/model-development only.
Why this model?
NEM NSW is the first modelling pilot because EnergyAsia already maintains a live NSW region, annual intensity observations, and a clear residual-load question. The model is disposable. The trusted representation of the NSW system is the asset.
Assumptions
- NSW NEM region residual demand is typically met first by near-zero short-run-cost renewables, then by scheduled thermal plant.
- Black coal is the dominant scheduled thermal fleet in the NSW NEM region.
- Gas plant is more likely to be on or near the margin at high residual demand, especially the evening peak.
- Rooftop and utility solar are treated as inframarginal while generating.
- Wind is treated as inframarginal when generating.
- Hydro, batteries, and interconnectors are unresolved in v0.1.
